What is Rempah?
Rempah is a complex spice blend that imparts intense flavor to a dish and is the backbone of cooking across the Malay Archipelago. Various spices are pounded with a pestle and mortar into a wet paste and fried over a gentle fire until fragrant. This paste, known as rempah, is used as a base for cooking delicious dishes.
At Homiah, we do the back-breaking labor of making rempah for you. All you have to do is grab a spice kit and choose your protein and veggies, so you can make delicious, grandma-approved Southeast Asian dishes in minutes.
Ol’ Fashioned, Clean Ingredients
At Homiah, we use traditional, all-natural spices — just like the ones Michelle’s Grandma Nonie would have used. Explore our ingredients below!

A Message from our CEO & Founder
Homiah began in the 1940s in Penang, the culinary capital of Malaysia, where my grandmother Nonie was a famous cook, and one of the first to codify local Southeast Asian "Nonya" recipes. Nonie's recipes became family heirlooms that I grew up cooking with. When I moved to America, I began sharing my cuisine and culture with friends. This passion for making others “homiah” became the basis for founding Homiah.
Today, I personally craft Homiah’s products based on Nonie’s recipes, working alongside small producers in Malaysia and using only the highest-quality, wholesome spices. For me, Homiah is more than about food. It is deeply personal: it is about the ability of food to comfort and connect people to the world around them. Thank you for joining me on an exciting journey!
